2020 Geoscience BC Scholarship Program

2020 Graduate Research Scholarship Program Now Open

Application Deadline: April 30, 2020

Vancouver, BC – March 10, 2020 - Geoscience BC opened its annual graduate research scholarship program today and is now seeking applications for up to ten awards of $5,000 each for students working on projects in BC exploring each of our three research focus areas: Minerals, Energy and Water.

In 2019, Geoscience BC funded 10 student projects that covered subjects ranging from the formation of mineral deposits, to geothermal assessments, to characterizing hydrocarbon deposits. To see details of the 2019 Geoscience BC scholarships, please visit our scholarships page.

Geoscience BC has invested $570,000 since 2007 to increase geoscience literacy and capacity in a new generation of earth scientists, awarding up to ten scholarships each year to Masters (MSc) or Doctorate (PhD) students working on BC-based projects.

Geoscience BC will award up to ten scholarships to students who have started in a MSc or PhD program in earth science, geoscience or applied geoscience. Applicants must be working on a BC-focused applied geoscience thesis topic related to the discovery or management of minerals, energy and water.

Scholarships will be awarded to students based on the project's technical merit, the student's interest and work experience in exploration and development related activities and volunteer experience. MSc students may receive the Geoscience BC scholarship only once during their program. Successful PhD students may apply for a second year of funding provided they can demonstrate that significant progress has been made on their project.

The application deadline for the 2020 scholarship program is April 30, 2020 at 4:00 pm PST. For more information and to view application forms, please visit the 2020 scholarship page.
