Carbonate Core Virtual Workshop

Carbonate Core Virtual Workshop
Mar. 16 - 17, 2021
Instructors:  Eva Drivet (M.Sc. P.Geol.) President, Drivet Geological consulting Ltd., David Hills (M.Sc. P.Geol.) Enhance Energy Inc
15 core display videos, 8 lectures, and live discussions
Early Bird Registration: $CAN600.00 ($CAN500 for students and members in transition) + GST.

We are taking a deep dive into the role of carbonates in the green energy revolution, in particular the emergent CCUS industry in Canada. We will have an example from the Devonian Leduc CCUS project at Clive, Alberta.  Guest lecturer Taylor Berezowski (Whitecap Resources) will give a 1 hour lecture on the Mississippian Midale CCUS project at Weyburn (Saskatchewan). Dr Steve Whittaker (who worked Weyburn from~2000 – 2017, and now is focussed on CCUS in the US) joining us for the live discussion to help shed light on the growing US CCUS movement.

This course provides an introduction to the carbonate rocks of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, and includes a review of carbonates as they relate to green energy potential, including two Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage examples:

1)    Devonian Leduc at Clive, Alberta.

2)    Mississippian Midale at Weyburn, Saskatchewan.

Guest speaker (Weyburn Mississippian Midale carbonates CCUS project) on March 17 from 13:00 – 14:30 : Taylor Berezowski, Geologist at Whitecap Resources

Dr. Steve Whittaker, Director – Energy and Minerals at the Illinois State Geological Survey, will join the Weyburn live Q&A discussion on March 17, for those with questions on CCUS projects in the US.

Who should attend?

This core workshop is open to everyone, but will benefit energy industry professionals looking for a brief overview and refresher on Devonian and Mississippian carbonate reservoirs, and support staffs working with geoscientists on carbonate reservoirs with an interest towards carbonate exploration, development, CO2 EOR /CCUS type projects, and other energy industry projects (geothermal and lithium).  This is a great opportunity to get mentorship on your carbonate projects.
