This conference is organized by the National Geothermal Association of the Philippines in partnership with the Department of Energy and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise. Joseph Scherer will present the new technical paper, “Progress for Closed-Loop Geothermal Projects in Steam and Two-Phase Dominated Reservoirs.”The Philippines is a pioneer in geothermal energy and has been generating geothermal power since 1977. Today geothermal power plants run as baseload facilities and produce 10,681 GWh of electricity and represent 45 percent of renewable energy facilities.1 With the third largest installed capacity in the world2, the country has geothermal resources of approximately 4,000 MW and actual installed capacity of 1,928 MW.3 There are much more geothermal resources to be developed and the government wants to ramp up geothermal development. Much of the Philippine’s geothermal resources are considered two-phase (steam and liquid). Joseph Scherer’s presentation will describe GreenFire Energy’s new technology that can generate energy from this type of resource and help to bring more geothermal power to the country.
