The Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Lead of the Ultradeep Geothermal project (hereafter “Research Lead”) will report to the Cascade Institute Research Director and lead all research and analysis activities associated with the Ultradeep Geothermal project.

Primary position outcomes:
• Responsible for all data gathering, analysis, and writing for project deliverables, which include (1) a feasibility study assessing the state of ultradeep drilling technologies and (2) an R&D roadmap outlining next steps for R&D and investment in ultradeep geothermal
• Engages with the international community working on different dimensions of geothermal research and policy – and ensures that their perspectives and voices are integrated into project deliverables
• Leads the communication of research findings to stakeholders, with the support of other members of the project team
• Manages all aspects of the Ultradeep Geothermal project with the support of the Research Director
• Provides regular progress updates to the Research Director, project team, and advisory team
• Plans and facilitates regular meetings with the project team and advisory team
• Tracks all relevant project evaluation metrics
• Prepares an evaluation report at the conclusion of the project for project funders
Job Requirements
Acknowledged expertise (PhD or equivalent demonstrated expertise) in renewable electricity systems or energy finance or environmental policy/science (or other fields related to geothermal and green energy)
• Knowledge of (ultradeep or conventional) geothermal systems would be useful
• Experience analyzing/comparing technologies and/or conducting technology assessments
• Experience managing multi-disciplinary research projects
• Experience identifying research gaps
• Experience conducting systematic literature reviews
• Experience consulting with diverse stakeholders in the development of research outputs
• Experience communicating research findings to a wide range of stakeholders
